I was going to buy the 2x2 or 2x4 by Tascam, ended up settling on the Focusrite because I'd used one before at a friend's place and liked the feel of the knobs and the general quality. I can't get it to go under 16ms of direct latency (so 32 roundtrip) without crackles and pops.įor contrast, although sometimes a bit buggy, my Tascam 1641 drivers and hardware are capable of 11ms round-trip latency on regular 'low latency' mode, which is pretty flawless most of the time, and 6ms roundtrip latency on the 'lowest latency' mode, although this will fall to its knees quickly if you are using a lot of MIDI + VSTi or recording, say, all 16 inputs at once from the unit.Īgree 100% on the 2i2 and 2i4 drivers at least from a year or so ago when I finally gave up on Focusrite for USB interfaces and bought an RME.īut nowadays there are others that behave themselves, albeit mostly not as well as the RME stuff, but at a lesser price. The quality of preamp gain and signal to noise ratio is superb.īut yep, the drivers are terrible. I'm still gonna use it since I mainly use it for portable recording using my CAD M179 which has a -20db pad and I generally record farther away with it, so no clipping issues there. Coupled with the fact that the preamp at 0 gain is too hot for many common sources (clipping from my passive guitar pickups, and my horn mic), I would look to return the Scarlett 2i2 if you bought yours with receipts. I just got a Scarlett 2i2 also, the driver and amount of control over latency is pretty atrocious.
